This copy is in very good vintage condition. The covers have very minimal shelfwear. The gilded pages (opposite the spine) have a wear spot (about 3 inches long) near the bottom (see 5th photo). The binding is a little loose for the first few pages (until the copyright page)...remaining pages are tight and clean from markings. Looks like it might have been repaired at some point (see last photo). No bookplate.
The Hobbit is the prelude to The Lord of the Rings trilogy. It is a lovely opening to Middle-earth (the setting of LOTR and parts of The Silmarillion). The Hobbit is one of the best-selling books of all-time.
This beautiful collector's piece would be an excellent addition to the library of a fan of Tolkien's work or of the Peter Jackson films.
